A masterclass in minimally invasive pediatric coloproctology was held at the Regional Multidisciplinary Children’s Hospital in Karaganda, Kazakhstan.

The event was part of the MUMKINDIK charitable project and brought together top surgeons from Kazakhstan and Russia to help children suffering from severe gastrointestinal diseases.

The masterclass was led by Professor Igor Kirgizov, one of Russia’s leading pediatric surgeons. Under his guidance, complex laparoscopic and video-assisted surgeries were performed. The procedures were observed by 25 surgeons from various regions of Kazakhstan, including Astana and Petropavlovsk, as well as 37 pediatricians and gastroenterologists from the Karaganda region.

During the training event, 11 surgeries were successfully conducted, and 18 more children received free consultations. Thanks to this experience, Kazakhstani doctors are now better equipped to perform such operations independently in the future.

One of the participants shared her personal story: her son David was born without an anal opening, and the family had considered treatment abroad, which they could not afford. Thanks to this project, the surgery was performed in Kazakhstan, and she emphasized that Professor Kirgizov’s participation was a decisive factor in their success.
