As part of an official visit, the Minister of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Akmaral Alnazarova, met in Ankara with the Minister of Health of Turkey, Kemal Memişoğlu.

During the negotiations, the parties discussed bilateral cooperation on several strategic issues. These included attracting investments for the development of hospital infrastructure and the production of Kazakhstani pharmaceutical products, exchanging advanced experience and technologies in clinical practice, medical education, and pharmaceutical supply.

The parties also discussed in detail the 5th Meeting of Health Ministers of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), where Kazakhstan holds the chairmanship this year. They reviewed the upcoming agenda of the event, which will be dedicated to the Year of Primary Health Care (PHC) in the OTS countries.

The event will serve as a platform for discussing key challenges and opportunities in the medical field among Turkic-speaking countries. The meeting’s agenda will focus on cooperation in areas such as the creation of a common medical platform, exchange of medical personnel and training, emergency medicine and disaster response, collaboration in pharmaceuticals, and drug manufacturing.

The 5th Meeting of Health Ministers of the OTS countries is scheduled for April 7-8, 2025, in Astana, coinciding with World Health Day.

Additionally, the head of the Kazakh Ministry of Health highlighted the significant contribution of Turkish investments to the development of Kazakhstan’s pharmaceutical industry and medical infrastructure, expressing readiness to strengthen this partnership.

Given the low level of integration between Kazakh universities and leading international institutions, the Kazakhstani side expressed interest in opening branches of Turkish universities at Kazakhstani medical universities.

Furthermore, the Kazakhstan Ministry of Health proposed the creation of a Unified Emergency Response Group among OTS member and observer states, based at the National Coordination Center for Emergency Medicine.

“This visit has been an important step in strengthening cooperation between our countries in the healthcare sector. We are interested in exchanging experience, training our specialists, and implementing innovative treatment and diagnostic methods to improve the quality of medical care in Kazakhstan,” said the Minister of Health.

On the first day of the visit, Akmaral Alnazarova visited the TÜSEB Research Institute and one of Turkey’s largest medical centers, Ankara Bilkent Şehir Hastanesi.

As a result of negotiations with the Turkish side, an agreement was reached on sending Kazakhstani students to study at Turkish medical universities and improving the qualifications of Kazakhstani doctors in priority fields at leading Turkish clinics. Additionally, bilateral cooperation in oncology and neonatal surgery will receive a new boost.
