A high-level masterclass on pancreaticoduodenal resection—one of the most complex procedures in abdominal surgery—was held at Pavlodar City Hospital No. 1. The operation, aimed at treating malignant tumors of the pancreas, lasted approximately 4 to 5 hours.

The surgery was performed by Professor Bolatbek Baymakhanov, Doctor of Medical Sciences, academician of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, and corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

This type of surgical intervention results in full recovery in 20–30% of cases and significantly improves the quality and life expectancy of patients in others.

Since last year, the hospital has hosted a specialized Center for Obstructive Jaundice. As part of the center’s activities, such procedures will be conducted regularly, contributing to the development of regional medical practice and improving access to high-tech healthcare services for residents of the region.

The capability to perform these surgeries locally was made possible through the reconstruction of Building A and the acquisition of modern medical equipment. Previously, patients with these diagnoses were referred to oncology centers or clinics in the capital.

Following the masterclass, a memorandum of cooperation was signed between the Syzganov National Scientific Center of Surgery, the Pavlodar Regional Health Department, and Pavlodar City Hospital No. 1. The agreement outlines joint efforts in experience sharing, implementation of new technologies, participation in educational and scientific-practical projects, and professional development of medical staff.
