Exactly 180 years ago, in 1846, American physician William T. G. Morton performed the first surgical operation using ether anaesthesia. This historic date became a milestone in the development of anaesthesiology and intensive care medicine, fields in which patient safety and quality of care have always been paramount.
To commemorate this historic event, the Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine with a Course in Emergency Medicine at KMU “KSPH”, in collaboration with Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine No. 2 and the Department of Pediatric Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine at Asfendiyarov Kazakh National Medical University, held a joint scientific and practical conference.
First-year residents prepared presentations on the origins of anaesthesiology worldwide, the development of the national anaesthesia service, and the pioneers who established the first departments of anesthesiology, resuscitation and intensive care.
Particular attention was drawn to the presentation by resident Darkhan Nukenov, dedicated to the development of pediatric anesthesiology and intensive care medicine in Kazakhstan. This specialty has a history spanning more than half a century. Its founder in Kazakhstan, Professor Tolegen Altayevich Dzhumabekov, continues to work as a professor at KMU “KSPH”.
Congratulations and Words of Encouragement
Welcoming remarks were delivered by the heads of the departments: G.S. Berdiyarova, Professor V.V. Chursin, and Professor A.D. Sepbayeva.
Associate Professor E.A. Adilbekov from our department addressed the young colleagues with warm wishes, emphasizing that today, clinical institutions, faculty members, and experienced physicians are creating every opportunity for the professional development of the next generation of anesthesiologists and intensivists.
Happy World Anaesthesia Day, dear colleagues! May every anaesthetic be safe, every clinical decision be confident, and every patient receive the highest standard of care! 🤝
