Information about the Department of Ophthalmology

The Department of Ophthalmology was established in August 2024 (Order No. 124/1-zh/q dated August 29, 2024) following the reorganization of the Department of Surgical Diseases at KMU VSHOZ.
The department is headed by Doctor of Medical Sciences Nailya Akhmetovna Aldasheva.
The Department of Ophthalmology at KMU VSHOZ trains ophthalmologists through a residency program specializing in “Adult and Pediatric Ophthalmology.”
The department’s academic staff comprises one Head of Department, three professors, and one associate professor. In addition to the core faculty, the educational process involves a number of other highly qualified instructors and medical specialists who possess extensive experience and have achieved significant success in the field of ophthalmology.
Each faculty member not only actively participates in the educational process but also conducts research aimed at advancing medicine and improving surgical treatment methods; furthermore, they actively provide clinical consultations and surgical care to patients with various eye pathologies.Resident training takes place at the Republican Ophthalmological Center—the Kazakh Research Institute of Eye Diseases—as well as at six other ophthalmological clinics. All clinical training sites are equipped with outpatient departments or clinics and operating suites, including facilities for cataract and refractive surgery.
Innovative diagnostic and treatment methods for a wide range of eye diseases—including retinal pathologies, glaucoma, cataracts, neoplasms, and other ophthalmic conditions—have been implemented at these clinical sites. This enables residents to manage patients with various ophthalmic pathologies in alignment with the specific subjects of their training curriculum.
Experienced clinical mentors are involved in training the residents; these mentors hold the highest or first qualification category in ophthalmology and possess at least five years of practical experience in the field.
Ophthalmology residents participate in conferences, seminars, symposia, training sessions, and masterclasses, as well as conferences for young ophthalmologists and researchers.
The Department of Ophthalmology at KMU VSHOZ possesses the necessary personnel and professional expertise to ensure high-quality training for specialists in the field of ophthalmology.
