The Department was created by the decision of the Academic Council of the Kazakhstan Medical University “HSPH” on the basis of Order №2 of 5th January, 2016.

The staff of the Department of Nutriciology takes an active part in all fundamental and applied medical and biological research carried out with the technical and financial support of UNICEF, WHO, UNDP, USAID, Macro International Inc. Wellstart and others in the field of nutrition and prevention of common forms of food insufficiency; in the development of sanitary norms and standards to ensure the quality and safety of food; in the improvement and promotion of healthy nutrition; in the training of physicians and specialists in nutrition and dietetics; the implementation of advisory and methodological assistance in rationalizing the nutrition of various groups of the population. Guided by the common long-term goals of science development and improving the quality of medical education, KMU “HSPH” and the Kazakh Academy of Nutrition combined intellectual, labor, material and other resources to improve the quality of medical education by integrating education, science and practice. The educational base of the department is at the Kazakh Academy of Nutrition, headed by Academician T.Sh. Sharmanov.


To take an active part in the training of highly qualified public health specialists in nutrition issues and increase the potential and awareness of various groups of the population in the prevention of alimentary-dependent diseases; to participate in the definition of the most important priorities for public health, suggesting the best ways to address them to the relevant administrative structures, participate in the development of an action plan for the rationalization of nutrition of the population and the prevention of noncommunicable diseases in Kazakhstan.


Based on its activity on the recognition and implementation of human rights in relation to nutrition, the work of the Department of Nutrition is aimed at training nutritional specialists, favoring the health of the population, achieved by the healthy nutrition.

He is a President of the Kazakh Academy of Nutrition, President of the Academy of Preventive Medicine and Kazakh Children’s Nutrition Foundation, Member of the WHO Expert Committee on Nutrition, Laureate of the State Prize of the RK, Honored Worker of the RK, Laureate of the Independent Platinum “Tarlan” Award in Science and the WHO Leon Le Bernard Foundation an outstanding contribution to the development of world health. T.Sharmanov is  the organizers of the Historical International Alma-Ata Conference of WHO and UNICEF on primary health care (1978), whose declaration was recognized as the “Great Charter of the World Health of the 20th Century”. He was awarded orders and medals of the USSR: Friendship, October Revolution, etc., Kazakhstan: Parasat and Dostyk, Barys III. Honorary citizen of Almaty. T. Sharmanov is the founder of the school of nutritionists in Kazakhstan. On the initiative of Sharmanova T.Sh. and thanks to his efforts Kazakh Academy of Nutrition since 1979 has the official status of the International Center for Nutrition, cooperating with WHO, since 1996 The United Nations University’s Cooperative Nutrition Center, since 1998 the UNICEF Foundation, since 1999, is an associate member of the World Scientific Council of Nutrition.Under his leadership were defended 40 doctoral and 135 candidate dissertations. T.Sh. Sharmanov is the author of about 460 publications, including 38 monographs and 40 inventions.Priority research interests: public health, nutritiology, dietology, preventive medicine, epidemiology, hygiene, clinical nutriciology, pharmacology, biochemistry, evidence-based medicine.

She completed courses for improvement qualification at the WellstartInternational course “Successful Lactation” in San Diego, California, USA, author and co-author of many scientific and methodical nutrition studies. Teaching experience is 20 years, she works as a Associate professor of Nutrition of KazNMU named after Asfendiyarov. She took an active part in the implementation of international and republican scientific projects on topical problems of nutrition and the prevention of alimentary-dependent diseases (supervisor of the Southern region under the “Medico-Demographic Research Program of Kazakhstan”, USAID, Macro Internet, USA (1999), responsible for the Aktyubinsk region for “Multi-indicator cluster research “(2006), active participation in the research work “Targeted development of university science, focused on innovative results “for the project : “Comprehensive prevention of the epidemic of overweight and obesity in Kazakhstan”, commissioned by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan (2012-2014). She has an active participation in the intra-university project “Advanced monitoring of domestic and imported food products, on the content of trans-isomers of fatty acids and their impact on the prevalence of non-communicable diseases in Kazakhstan” (2016). She is the author and co-author of educational and methodological manuals, methodical recommendations for students on the specialty “Medical prophylactic work” and “Public health”: “Sanitary-hygienic control of food and objects of the food production” (1998), “Hygiene of Nutrition” (also  of version in Kazakh) (2006), “Folic Acid Deficiency and the Way of Prevention” (also  of version in Kazakh) (2007); “Preventive sanitary supervision in Nutrition” (2009), “Healthy nutrition in Pediatrics” (2010), “Sanitary and epidemiological requirements to the objects of food production” (2016).Priority research interests: public health, nutritiology, dietetics, preventive medicine, epidemiology, hygiene.

M. Kainarbaeva has Bachelor’s degree in “Health Management” and she is an excellent health professional. She was Worked Deputy Director of the Department of Human Resources Development. In 2009, she was transferred to the position of Scientific Secretary of the Scientific Council of KazNMU. During 2011-2013 years she served as executive director of the Public Association “National Center for Healthy Nutrition”. Since September 1, 2014 she was appointed the Head of the Nutrition Department of KazNMU named after Asfendiyarov. The general work experience – 20 years. She took an active part in the implementation of international and republican scientific projects on current nutrition problems and the prevention of alimentary-dependent diseases. Kaynarbaeva M.S. is the author and co-author of more than 50 popular science publications and 10 teaching aids. In 2016, Kaynarbaeva, M.S. was awarded with a badge “Honored worker of public health” of the MPHRD of RK, and also a certificate of honor of Akimat of the Almaly district for contribution to public health and active participation in social and public life of the Almaty city`s district. Priority research interests: public health, nutritiology, dietetics, preventive medicine, epidemiology, hygiene.
